The Fortunes of Few

My eyes see the wealth; my stomach feels the emptiness,
When I give out my hand, I get nothing in return,
I am forced to be in a position that I can not resist,
I am the ills of society, and I am their hope.

The human race advances forward, and I take two back,
Inertia has left me here, but why must it be?
Why am I not part of the New Order?
Science and technology move on,

We are exploring the final frontiers of space.
However, I am in the inner cities of prosperity,
Looking from the outside in, I am in the center, but am nowhere,
Our society justifies our fortunes individually,
I am an individual with nothing to show, do I still belong?
