Shuffle to a Mission

Moving forward I can hear the harmony of our feet.
As we shuffle to a mission for our first rest and to eat.
The faces around me are young and old with despair.
Our American dream is now broken without care.

What happened to a fulltime job with good pay?
Social security, benefits, and time to pray.
At a busy street corner with a handheld out.
Head down and pride put aside as people shout.

Home is a shelter with my thoughts alone.
The day begins by begging as my stomach moans.
I see for sale, foreclosure, and bankrupt around me.
When will the government bailout the real needy?

Rumology

Glass half empty with cubes ready to mingle.
Pour the smooth drink for a tasty tingle.
A full glass of rum with two splashes of coke.
A nice way to relax while lighting up a smoke.

A hard day’s work deserves a dance with the devil.
The alcoholic drink can make any mortal mellow.
Sit back, drink slow, let time drag on.
Before you know it the rum of bottle is gone.

Looking at the bottom of an empty glass.
Cubes melted away, with no more rum to pass.
On to the next drink with friends to share.
Anyone for a shot of sambuca, or does anyone care?

The Whispering Grass

Walking through the whispering grass.
I can hear the words from the past.
The voices from yesterday’s village.
War has destroyed this place in ultimate pillage.

We wash our hands of an enemies disgrace.
Let’s forgive the sinners and rebuild this place.
I hear a child weep, not much older than me.
No mother, No father left alone to be.

Our land is barren with no food or drink.
Prosperity lies in ourselves, and how we think.
Open arms must present themselves in this despair.
A helping hand, to give and share.

My place in this world is for me to unfold.
As I hear the grass whisper of stories untold.
I will remember what I hear and see
To remind the world of why we should be free.

The Day After

The days travel has finally come to an end.
This great country of ours can begin to mend.
Thank-you for giving me the final vote.
Your steadfastness and resilience has given us new hope.

We can accomplish anything with you by my side.
Our future now is great let us begin this ride.
Hand in hand, black and white.
Let this great nation heal, and reunite.

Our prosperity is within each other
Turn to either side and look to your brother.
The world after this election has cheered with glee.
Not because, I’m president but because of you and me.

A new beginning has emerged.
We must remember in this election we purged,
Not only our sins, but a president named bush.
Let the U.S. grow again, and flourish.
